The Family YMCA of Greater Augusta is offering grab-and-go breakfast and lunch to kids at:

Dorothy Hains Elementary, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Area YMCA locations are also open for the community to take showers, charge devices and cool off.

FEMA announced that federal disaster assistance is available to the state of South Carolina to supplement recovery efforts in the areas affected by Hurricane Helene from Sept. 25, 2024 and continuing.
The President's action makes federal funding available to affected individuals in Aiken, Anderson, Bamberg, Barnwell, Cherokee, Edgefield, Greenville, Greenwood, Lexington, Newberry, Oconee, Pickens, Saluda and Spartanburg counties. Assistance can include grants for temporary housing and home repairs, low-cost loans to cover uninsured property losses and other programs to help individuals and business owners recover from the effects of the disaster.
Federal funding is also available to state, tribal and eligible local governments and certain private nonprofit organizations on a cost-sharing basis for emergency work in Aiken, Anderson, Bamberg, Barnwell, Cherokee, Edgefield, Greenville, Greenwood, Newberry, Oconee, Pickens, Saluda and Spartanburg counties.
Federal funding is also available on a cost-sharing basis for hazard mitigation measures statewide.
Brett H. Howard has been named the Federal Coordinating Officer for federal recovery operations in the affected areas. Additional designations may be made later if warranted by the results of damage assessments.
Individuals and business owners who sustained losses in the designated areas can begin applying for assistance by registering online at www.DisasterAssistance.gov, by calling 1-800-621-3362 or by using the FEMA App. If you use a relay service, such as video relay service (VRS), captioned telephone service or others, give FEMA the number for that service.

FEMA announced today that federal disaster assistance is available to the state of Georgia to supplement response efforts due to emergency conditions resulting from Hurricane Helene beginning Sept. 24 and continuing.  The President’s action makes federal funding available to affected individuals in Appling, Brooks, Coffee, Columbia, Jefferson, Liberty, Lowndes, Pierce, Richmond, Tattnall and Toombs counties. Assistance can include grants for temporary housing and home repairs, low-cost loans to cover uninsured property losses and other programs to help individuals and business owners recover from the effects of the disaster.Federal funding is also available to state and eligible local governments and certain private nonprofit organizations on a cost-sharing basis for emergency work in Appling, Brooks, Coffee, Columbia, Jefferson, Liberty, Lowndes, Pierce, Richmond, Tattnall and Toombs counties. Federal funding is also available on a cost-sharing basis for hazard mitigation measures statewide.This is a new development and includes a one-time $750 payment to help with essential items like food, water, baby formula and other emergency supplies.

After registering for disaster assistance, individuals may also qualify to receive disaster-related financial assistance to repair storm-related damage to homes and replace personal property, as well as assistance to find a temporary place to stay. Hot meals are offered free to the public during the week of Oct. 7 from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m.: Glenn Hills Middle School, 2941 Glenn Hills Drive; Hephzibah Elementary School, 2542 Highway 88; McBean Elementary School, 1165 Hephzibah McBean Road; and W.S. Hornsby Elementary School, 310 Kentucky Ave.
The Augusta Fire Department serves free warm meals daily at the Center of Hope at 1384 Greene St. at 5:30 p.m.
Get food, ice, water and other supplies at 10 a.m. at Warren Church, 3202 Washington Road.
Resource pantry is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 631 Chafee Ave.
Greater Augusta Interfaith Coalition will be giving away food and other supplies from noon to 4 p.m. daily except Sundays until Oct. 15 at 1439 Walton Way. For more information, call 706-707-9500 or 706-840-6844.
