I’m 25 years old and have spent my entire life running from the idea of God I was brought up with which frightened me.  Four years ago this month I entered recovery from alcoholism and drug addiction and was told in that program I could have my own conception of God, as long as I had a God and it wasn’t me.  That allowed me to be open to searching for my higher power.

 I have spent the last four years trying to reconcile myself with the idea of a loving God who could love me no matter what and help me stay sober and live a happy, useful life.  It has been so hard to try to believe that.  I just don’t feel like I’m worth loving unconditionally and I still struggle to really believe that God isn’t sitting around taking score, ready to send me to hell.

 I just called to contribute $30 a month and I just wanted to tell you why.  This station has been absolutely necessary to me coming to believe that God could love me.  The music you play, the stories you tell and the conviction you all display of a God who could love anyone – all that has brought me peace that I didn’t think I could have. I have a long way to go but I am starting to believe that I’m going to have a relationship with God of my own.  I still get scared, but I turn on this station and I don’t hear about having to be afraid of God or preaching from Revelation that I grew up with.  I hear hope and love.
