Feel Good Friday: 100-Year Old Veteran Shares Joy Of Reading With Elementary Students

Posted on Jan 27, 2023 by Jenny Bender

Peter Davies has lived a full, eventful life. He was a fighter pilot in WWII and in 1945, he flew more than 1,000 air gliders in a raid against the nazis. Now, at 100 years old, he's discovering a new purpose for his life...

After losing his wife of 72 years, Peter says that he felt like a lost soul. His daughter encouraged him to begin volunteering at a local elementary school, where he helps children learn to read. He found that he and the children enjoyed it so much that he continued to volunteer. Peter says it has made him realize that his life still has meaning. "I'm sure I get more out of it than the children do. It is a lovely, warm feeling that I belong," Davies told BBC. "I'm not this old man who lives on his own. I'm part of the community, which is great."

Life is a journey, and oftentimes, when one chapter ends, we can feel lost and without purpose. Peter's story reminds us that no matter what phase of life we're in, God still has a plan & purpose for us!
