This Is Healing

“If my wounds could tell one story, let it be a testimony that You don't leave me where I've been.” That’s one of my favorite lines in the Big Daddy Weave song, “Let It Begin.” Healing is something that I think we all need and crave in our life in one area or another. Whether it’s physical ailments, emotional struggles, financial strain or broken relationships, God offers us a path to healing in any & every area of life. One of my favorite verses is Psalm 147:3, which says, “He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.” This reminds us that God is not just concerned about our physical health; He cares deeply about our emotional and spiritual well-being, too.

Think about how often we carry around burdens from past hurts or strained relationships. Those wounds can run deep, affecting how we interact with others and even how we see ourselves. But here’s the good news: God invites us to bring those hurts to Him. In Matthew 11:28, Jesus says, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” Isn’t that comforting? When we lay our burdens at His feet, we open ourselves up to His healing touch, whether it’s a heart that’s been broken or a relationship that needs mending.

Many of us are also desperate for God’s physical healing on our bodies. James 5:14 tells us, “Is anyone among you sick? Let them call the elders of the church to pray over them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord.” This verse emphasizes the power of prayer and community in the healing process. God often works through others, and being part of a supportive community can help us experience His healing in tangible ways. (If you don't have a church home, WAFJ can help you find a place to connect! Click here for a list of local churches in the CSRA.) Does that mean that when we pray for a disease or illness to go away, it’s always going to happen in the way that we want? Sadly, no. And I’ll be honest: I often struggle with understanding the “why” in those situations...but we can choose to trust even when we don’t understand. We can trust Him to carry us through all of those tough emotions, like grief, sadness & bewilderment, confusion, even doubt & anger. We can trust that when God’s healing takes place on the other side of Heaven instead of this one, He is still gracious and His plans are still good.

Ultimately, healing – whether physical, emotional, mental, financial, relational, etc. - is a journey, not just a destination. It might not happen overnight, and that’s okay. As we navigate through life’s ups and downs, let’s hold onto the promise in Isaiah 41:10, where God assures us, “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.” Remember, healing is possible, because with God all things are possible. His love is always with you, guiding you toward wholeness in Him. This is healing...let it begin!
