I'm Just SO Tired!
Posted on Nov 05, 2024 by Jenny Bender
I’m writing this on the morning of Election Day, and at this point, there’s so much that we don’t yet know...who will win, what will happen, where we’re headed, etc. This election season has felt longer and more mentally & emotionally draining than any other election in my lifetime. There’s a heaviness and a sense of tension everywhere you look, listen or scroll. I'm just SO tired! All of that to say, everything I’m sharing with you right now is what I need to remind myself of, too. It’s easy to get trapped by negativity, anxiety & dread over the outcome of such a polarizing election.
With so much unknown, I find it helpful to be reminded of what IS known: no matter who’s President, Jesus is still King (Revelation 11:15). No matter what promises were made by politicians on the campaign trail, Jesus is our Promise Keeper (Hebrews 10:23). No matter what laws our government passes, God’s word is still the lamp to our feet & the light to our path (Psalm 119:105).
Nothing is a surprise to God. He wrote the end from the beginning (Isaiah 46:10). Make no mistake, regardless of our government, God is the one who reigns. Psalm 22:28 reminds us, "For kingship belongs to the Lord, and He rules over the nations." When the votes are counted and the dust settles, we can rest assured that God’s sovereignty remains unchanged. It’s comforting to know that our ultimate allegiance is not to a person or a party, but to Jesus Christ.
Regardless of the outcome of the election, there will be people asking,“What if my person or my party doesn’t win? How am I supposed to have peace with a decision or a person that I disagree with?" As with everything we face in life, let’s see what the Bible has to say about it...
“All authority comes from God, and those in positions of authority have been placed there by Him.” That’s Romans 13:1, and in times when I have disagreed with elections or leaders or politics, that verse has reminded me that I can still have a measure of peace knowing that it was part of God’s plan to put that person or party in power. It’s natural and good for us to have high hopes for the people in positions of power, but remember: our trust isn’t in them; it’s in the Lord (Proverbs 3:5). Our hope isn’t in them; it’s in the Lord (Lamentations 3:24). Our help doesn’t come from them; it comes from the Lord (Psalm 121:2). We KNOW that in the end, God works all things – even the things we don’t understand in this moment - together for the good of those who love Him and are called according to HIS purposes (Romans 8:28). Politicians will come and go, but God’s plan never wavers! (Proverbs 19:21)
I encourage you to turn your worries & stress about our country into prayers. That’s a powerful act of faith! Philippians 4:6-7 tells us not to be anxious about anything, but to pray about everything. Let His peace guard your heart & mind. There may be chaos around you, but there doesn’t have to be chaos within you. Stand on the truth that Jesus is still King. His Kingdom isn’t shaken by human decisions or elections; it’s everlasting and filled with hope! Let’s encourage one another to keep our eyes fixed on Him, trusting in His perfect plan, and remembering that no matter what, He’s still in control. With Jesus as our foundation, we can rest easy and face the future with confidence.
