Something Worth Celebrating

Posted on Dec 09, 2024 by Jenny Bender

Does anyone else find it hard to believe that Christmas is next week?! It’s easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle, isn’t it? Between the shopping, decorating, and all the planning, we can sometimes lose sight of the real reason we celebrate. The birth of Jesus, found in Luke 2:10-11, brings a message of hope: “I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David, a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord.” This promise is just as relevant to us today as it was over two thousand years ago.

Think about it—Mary and Joseph faced many challenges. They were far from home, with a baby on the way, and they didn’t have a cozy hospital to welcome their child. Instead, they found shelter in a stable, surrounded by animals and the smell of hay. Yet, in those humble surroundings, the Savior of the world was born! It’s a beautiful reminder that God often works in the most unexpected ways. Just like Mary and Joseph, we might find ourselves in difficult or uncertain situations, but Christmas shows us that even in our struggles, there’s potential for something extraordinary.

As we celebrate this season, let’s remember that God’s love is present in our lives, even when things don’t go as planned. In Matthew 1:23, we’re reminded that Jesus is “Emmanuel,” which means “God with us.” This means that we’re never alone, no matter how chaotic life gets. When we’re feeling overwhelmed, we can take a moment to pause and invite His presence into our lives. Just like the shepherds who received the message from the angels in the field, we too can experience joy and peace, even in the midst of our busy lives.

So, as you gather with family and friends this Christmas, take a moment to reflect on the hope that Jesus brings. Share the story of His birth, and let it inspire your conversations. Remember the reason for the season, no matter how hectic all of the hustle and bustle can be. Just as God fulfilled His promise then, He continues to fulfill His promises in our lives today, and that's something to celebrate all year long! Merry Christmas!
