Make It Count

Last week, we observed the birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Although nearly 60 years have passed since his death, his messages continue to inspire and challenge people to love God and love others. Dr. King once said that life’s most persistent and urgent question is, “What are you doing for others? This question reminds us that one of our greatest callings is sharing the love of Jesus through ourservice to others.
It's easy to get caught up in our daily routines, focusing on our own needs and desires. However, when we shift our perspective to consider how we can uplift and support those around us, we start to embody the spirit of love that God calls us to. In Galatians 5:13, Paul tells us, “For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.”
When we look at the life of Jesus, we see the ultimate example of selfless love. He didn’t just preach about love; He lived it daily. From feeding the hungry to healing the sick, His actions spoke volumes. Think about the times when you’ve felt the warmth of someone’s kindness or the impact of a small gesture. Those moments are what truly connect us as human beings. If we take a moment to reflect on our own lives, we might realize that serving others not only benefits them but also fills us with joy and purpose. In John 15:12, Jesus says, “This is My commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you.”
It’s not always easy to put others before ourselves, especially in a world that often prioritizes individual success. But what if we viewed service as an opportunity rather than a burden? Imagine the ripple effect of small acts of kindness. A smile, a helping hand, or a listening ear can change someone’s day and even their life.
“Let each of you look not only to his own interests but also to the interests of others.” ~ Philippians 2:4
