It's All Putt of the Process

Have you ever felt like you were stuck, pouring your heart into a dream that seems just out of reach? Rory McIlroy certainly knows that struggle. After nearly eleven years without a major win, he could’ve let discouragement take over. Instead, he kept practicing, competing, and refused to give up, even when victory felt far away. His journey to winning the Masters is a powerful reminder of the importance of patience, persistence, and perseverance in our lives. As James 1:4 reminds us, “Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.”
Life's challenges can make us feel like we’re going nowhere, and it’s easy to lose hope when our dreams seem distant. Rory didn’t just wait for success to land in his lap; he kept grinding, honing his skills, and showing up on the greens, even when the wins weren’t coming. This is a great lesson for us. When we chase our goals, whether they’re personal or professional, we often face those slow, frustrating moments. But just like Rory, we need to press on, knowing that God’s timing is perfect. As Hebrews 12:1 encourages us, we’re called to “run with perseverance the race marked out for us.”
Remember, the journey toward our goals isn’tjust about reaching the finish line; it’s about the growth and strength we gain along the way. Every practice session, every setback, and every small victory contributes to who we become. When we focus on our progress and what we’re learning, we can find encouragement in our persistence. As Romans 5:3-4 tells us, “Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope.” Leaning into our faith during these times can provide the strength we need to keep moving forward.
So, whatever goal or dream you’re pursuing, don’t lose heart. Keep putting in the effort, keep believing, and trust that God is right there with you. Just like Rory’s incredible triumph at the Masters, your breakthrough could be just around the corner. You don't have to be a golf fan, or even someone who follows sports at all, to appreciate the moment that Rory made the shot that won him the Green Jacket that he had dreamt of since he was a child. Every shot, from drives to putts & everything in between, led up to that moment and prepared Rory for that moment. With patience and perseverance, and faith guiding you, you’ll find the resilience to continue, even when the days are long and the path is difficult. God has GREAT plans & a special purpose for you, and every step – even the slow ones – is an important part of the process & the story that He’s writing!
