This listing is for a part-time position that requires 20 hours per week, including 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. each Friday and Sunday. The schedule for remaining hours needed to reach 20 hours is left up to the Assistant and Supervisor depending on coverage needed each week. Job Overview The TCC Assistant reports to the TCC Coordinator. The TCC Assistant plays a critical role in the efficient operation of the Therapeutic Childcare Center through assisting in areas such as engaging in play, creating and facilitating lessons and activities, ensuring safety in all child interactions, and providing support and encouragement to the mothers of the children in TCC care. Essential Functions Assists in the development and preparation of materials needed for TCC use. Provide individual and small group instruction to children. Assists in the implementation of therapeutic strategies for the children in the program. Supports children in the classroom who may be in crisis. Provides physical support, utilizing Nonviolent Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) when safety risks arise. Assists in monitoring and charting all information required by Hope House and its governing bodies, including DBHDD, PSSF, and SAMHSA. Assists TCC Coordinator in arranging childcare for children in custody of mothers participating in treatment at Hope House who are working. Assists in addressing therapeutic interventions for children in custody of mothers participating in treatment at Hope House. Works effectively as a member of an interdisciplinary team and participates in reflective supervision. Assists in the preparation and clean-up of the classroom as per the needs of the curricular task and the needs of the children in the program. Participates in team meetings. Ensures that safety and security measures are included in all activities. Maintains professional boundaries with children, mothers, and other family or support members. Reports all concerns regarding health and well-being of children and mothers to TCC Coordinator. Reports any and all suspicions of abuse to appropriate authorities as mandated by law. In the Coordinator’s absence, the TCC Assistant may assume the role and responsibility of the lead teacher as discussed in advance. Participates in necessary trainings and professional development to comply with licensing and Hope House specific policies. Perform all other duties assigned. Work Environment & Physical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use a computer and communicate using a computer and phone/smart device. The employee should be able to move between indoor areas and outdoor areas of the Hope House campus as needed. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move 20-25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move 30-50 pounds, including carrying babies and young children. The employee must be able to stoop, bend, sit, and stand up in order to engage in meaningful play with children. The employee must be able to react quickly to a variety of circumstances. The employee will be required to change diapers, assist with potty training and toilet use of children, and perform first aid when applicable incidents occur. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, but may be higher than a general office environment. Qualifications:
High School Graduate or GED Equivalency, or enrolled in higher education Three years’ experience working with children in a childcare center Knowledge of basic child care and feeding, as well as an understanding of infant and child development Experience in mental health or social sciences preferred
